Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Jose, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 11:30 am–2 pm. It is closed on Tuesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (408) 998-8170. We used to have dinner here quite regularly, but for some reasons (not because they have bad service / food), we have not stepped foot in this restaurant for a good 1-2 years. So, we decided to come back to have dinner here. I am happy to say that the food is still good. We ordered a Nabeyaki Udon and a bento box with chicken teriyaki and sashimi. For additional $1, I got 5 slices of sashimi, I think it is worth it. The salad that comes with the bento is always one of my favorites, because they taste really good. And you can get free ice-cream. However, the portion of the food seems a bit less than the last time (years ago) we had one here. The host and service were good. The restaurant setting has not changed at all, but not crowded. Overall, good food, reasonable pricing.

I had a very disappointing experience at Sushi Maru and cannot recommend it due to serious concerns regarding both food hygiene and basic service standards. The most alarming part of the meal was finding a hair in my miso soup. Finding foreign objects in food is a major red flag for kitchen sanitary practices. It made it impossible to enjoy the rest of the meal, as it raised questions about the overall cleanliness and food handling protocols in the kitchen. The service was equally frustrating and felt deeply unprofessional. I noticed a clear lack of a "first-come, first-served" policy. Despite arriving and being seated before others, I was ignored while a white gentleman who entered after me was attended to immediately. Whether this was intentional or just complete disorganization, it felt dismissive and exclusionary.

We were in town and heard this was the IT spot! So we got there when it opened. It was a quick experience! Food didn't take long to come out. I ordered the bento box...seemed like the best way to do everything. Then as the conveyor belt came around you could add your sushi. The food was really good, and the staff was super helpful with anything you didn't understand. Prices vary depending on additional sushi ordered or alcohol

This place is phenomenal! The sushi is super delicious and well worth the price. My favorites are the jalapeno and diego roll. We've became regulars and well known now by the owner and the sushi makers, ezekiel is super friendly and funny to talk too! The staff is also nice and very welcoming! This is a must try! We love sitting at the sushi bar!

Do you love sushi? Want to go on an adventure and not leave your seat, come to Sushi Maru and order everything off the special nigiri sushi menu. Its a whirlwind of flavors and textures. Its fun to see whats new. Some items are seasonal so you'll only see them once a year. It will not disappoint. The fish is fresh, service is attentive and I've never seen Suhi Maru not busy. Every time I come home to visit, I do not miss a trip to Sushi Maru. Was back in town this last week. Can't miss Maru. They had Ikura from Hokkaido. Top notch. Once again they never fail to take it to another level. Bluefin nigiri plate was on point. Love it.
